Root Canal Therapy

A root canal is a highly effective procedure used to save a tooth that has become infected or severely inflamed. While root canals are often associated with discomfort, modern techniques and technology have made treatment far more comfortable than many patients expect.

At Sarko Dental Associates, our goal is to relieve pain, eliminate infection, and preserve your natural tooth whenever possible.

What Is a Root Canal?

Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected or damaged due to deep decay, cracks, trauma, or large restorations, a root canal may be needed to remove the infection and protect the tooth from further damage.

During treatment, the infected tissue is carefully removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected, and the canals are sealed to help prevent future infection.

Signs You May Need a Root Canal

Some common symptoms that may indicate the need for root canal therapy include:

  • Persistent tooth pain
  • Sensitivity to hot or cold
  • Swelling or tenderness near the tooth
  • Pain when biting or chewing
  • Darkening or discoloration of a tooth
  • A pimple or abscess on the gums

In some cases, Dr. Sarko finds a tooth may require treatment even without noticeable symptoms, which is why regular dental examinations and X-rays are important. We strive to prevent discomfort before it begins. If you haven't had a check up in a while, please call us at 480-951-2782.
