Dental Inlays & Onlays

When a tooth has damage that is too extensive for a traditional filling but not severe enough to require a full dental crown, inlays and onlays can provide an excellent solution. These custom restorations are designed to strengthen and protect your tooth while preserving as much healthy natural structure as possible.

At Sarko Dental Associates, we use high-quality materials and advanced techniques to create durable, natural-looking restorations that blend seamlessly with your smile, often while you wait.

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays fit within the grooves of a tooth and repair damage contained inside the cusps (the raised edges of the tooth).

Onlays extend over one or more cusps of the tooth, providing additional protection and reinforcement when more coverage is needed.

They are sometimes referred to as “partial crowns” because they restore a portion of the tooth without covering the entire tooth like a traditional crown.

Benefits of Inlays & Onlays

Inlays and onlays offer several advantages compared to large fillings or full crowns:

  • Preserve more healthy natural tooth structure
  • Stronger and more durable than large fillings
  • Help reinforce weakened teeth
  • Highly aesthetic and color-matched to your natural smile
  • Resistant to staining and wear
  • Provide a precise, custom fit for long-lasting comfort and function

Materials Used

Most modern inlays and onlays are made from high-quality porcelain or ceramic materials that closely mimic the appearance and strength of natural teeth. They can also be fabricated out of gold where aesthetics are less of a concern.

Our goal is to provide restorations that are both functional and beautifully natural-looking.

Are Inlays or Onlays Right for You?

You may be a candidate for an inlay or onlay if you have:

  • A tooth with moderate decay or damage
  • Large or failing fillings
  • Cracked or weakened teeth
  • A desire to preserve more natural tooth structure

During your evaluation, our team will help determine the best treatment option for your long-term oral health and smile goals.
